[Lotus Notes Sucks: Example 66]
Appointment Categories
Problem
When you schedule an appointment, Lotus Notes gives you the opportunity to categorize that appointment as a Holiday, Vacation, etc.
Analysis
Given that Lotus Notes provides six (6) categories, would it kill them to show all six in the drop-down list instead of just five? Why do I have to scroll to see the last item in the list? Why? WHY! WHY! WHY?!
Update for Version 6.5.2
Instead of a drop-down list, a modal dialog box appears. Here's what it look likes.
Go ahead, add a new keyword. I added "useless." Now try to delete it. I can't figure it out. The DELETE key doesn't work. There's no shortcut menu...
It gets better. Click Print Preview. Look at what you get:
It's a little difficult to see, but notice how the Where and Categorize boxes spill into the margin and then are cut off on the right. Really nice.
User Interface Guideline Violations
- Forcing the user to click unnecessarily.
- Forcing the user to do more work than necessary.
- Forcing the user to deal with stupidity.
Conclusion
Lotus Notes sucks.
