[Lotus Notes Sucks: Example 61]
Pasting/Creating an Image
Problem
Every web browser displays for images a shortcut menu that contains a Copy Image or similar command. The result of selecting the command is to copy the image into the Clipboard.
If you paste an image such as the one below:
from the Clipboard into a Lotus Notes mail message, it appears differently:
However, if you save the image to a file, then "Create" a "picture" by clicking Picture on the Create menu, the image appears as it supposed to.
Note if you paste an image from the Clipboard into Microsoft Word, Microsoft Photo Editor, Microsoft Paint, etc., the image appears correctly. However, Lotus Notes removes some colors for who knows what reason.
Analysis
Pasting an image should yield the same results as "Creating" a picture. Creating is in quotes because the menu should really be named Insert, because I am not creating anything; I am inserting a picture. I suspect the menu is named Create because there are unrelated commands within this menu, such as Calendar Entry command on the Document submenu.
User Interface Guideline Violations
- Interface does not do as the user expects.
- User interface behaves inconsistently.
- Forcing the user to deal with stupidity.
Conclusion
Lotus Notes sucks.
