[Lotus Notes Sucks: Example 60]
Deleting Old Meetings
Problem
Lotus Notes remembers every meeting ever sheduled. Today, I wanted to delete meetings that were scheduled as far back as four years ago.
To delete meetings from Lotus Notes
- Select one or more meeting entries from your Lotus Notes Calendar.
- Press DELETE.
When the following message appears:
Say to yourself, "No I don't want to delete (remove) any document(s). I want to delete these meeting entries I just selected."
- Anyway, go ahead and click Yes.
When this dialog box appears:
Think to yourself, "What the hell does 'No RESUME' mean?" Why is RESUME capitalized?
- Click OK.
Note that in spite of the idiotic messages and errors, your meetings are deleted.
Analysis
Again, Lotus Notes dazzles us with bizarre behavior.
User Interface Guideline Violations
- Giving the user an incomprehensible error message.
- Error messages should be constructed so that they are grammatically correct and contain punctuation.
- Interrupting the user's work flow with a pointless dialog box.
- User is given useless information.
- Forcing the user to deal with stupidity.
Conclusion
Lotus Notes sucks.
