[Lotus Notes Sucks: Example 56]
Interlude, Part 2
Let's pause for another moment and discover what others are saying. The first is a rant I found at Work or Spoon. I've copied the rant in case the link disappears. I also had to clean up the salty language.
-
Okay, my first gripe: Lotus Notes.
I would like the person who designed this piece of yak s*** to stand up so that I can have my pet elephant "Bay-bay" [do something unpleasant to] you.
I found out during my interview for this place that they used it here, and having used it in the past, almost didn't take the job because of it. It was that bad. Fortunately, it hasn't improved in the four years since I was last subjected to its retard-inspired f***ed-upedness, and thus I have plenty to tell you about! :)
Okay, first, the interface. For anyone who has ever used any mail program anywhere, the joys of learning Notes are as fullfilling as the joys you experienced the first time you ever took mouse to hand. Nothing is where it should be, and things that should be there are not.
For example, in every mail program I've ever seen, to reply to a mail, you [press] CTRL+R. Not in Notes. No, for Notes you have to [press] ALT+2, then [press] DOWN ARROW and select Reply with History. Brilliant. One keypress becomes three. I supposed that's more efficient. Yeah, in Bizzaro-f***ing-world! Wanna send a mail? Everywhere else, you [press] ALT+S. Note how the designers understand that keyboard shortcuts are difficult to remember, so...Send...S....Reply...R. Easy. Notes? ALT+3. Ah. Of course, how could I have been so silly as to not know that??
Now, I've replied to that mail, let me delete it. In every other mail program, you [press]...oh, I dunno...DELETE? Well, so too in Notes, but there's a catch. If you [press] DELETE, the message stays in your Inbox, it just has a little trash can icon next to it. Oh, that's helpful. I always find myself asking, "Now, where did I put that mail that I deleted because I no longer wanted to f***ing see it?" I'm so glad they made it easier for me to find it. Instead of going to that pesky Deleted folder to look for deleted items, they live in my Inbox where, while it clutters it up, does make my life so much better.
But, I lie a little. You can force Notes to delete the messages by "refreshing" your mailbox. Now, for anyone who has ever used Windows before, F5 is the key to refresh things. Refresh a page in IE? F5. Refresh the contents of a folder in Explorer? F5! Refresh the contents of Notes? F9. Ah. Then, what does F5 do? Well, that one logs you off the system. Ohhhh....that's convenient. Instead of refreshing the screen, log me off. Well, that'll keep me from getting frustrated with the f***ing interface, now won't it!?!? Oh, and when I [press] refresh, it asks if I'm really sure I'd like to delete those messages that I deleted earlier that are still in my inbox despite the f***ing fact that I already f***ing deleted them!
And, it's ever so smart a program. Today I came back to my desk to find my "You've got new mail" box up on the screen. I clicked Open Mail and it took me to the Inbox where I was shown all the mail in there was unread. That would be all the mails that I've read over the last few days, that I didn't delete, and two mails that I'd not only read, but DELETED using the simplistic delete method described above. F***ing stupid f***ing stupid.
So, I [selected] those two messages, [pressed] DELETE, then [pressed] F9 to refresh, then selected Yes on the "Are you sure you want to delete these 3 messages" message.
"Wait a minute? I thought you said, TWO messages." Well, as a matter of fact, I did. I have no idea what the f*** it was talking about, and since when I delete messages, THEY'RE TOTALLY F***ING GONE!, I can't go into the Trash folder to see what it was. So, if you sent me a message I didn't reply to, now you know why.
I haven't met the Notes admin yet, but right after I punch him right in the mouth I'm going to ask...How the F*** could you have ever used this piece of s*** and said, "Gee, this'll be a great choice for our users!"???
- I worked for a major government agency that "upgraded" to Lotus Notes as an email client (version R5 I think) two years ago, from ccMail. It was the most wretched program that I've ever used. Even ccMail was better. Source.
I work for a large European based company that has many sites here in the US. In order to get things standardized around all of their locations they made everyone do things like they do in Europe, which means that we all got this s***hole email application called Lotus Notes (makes a lot of sense when every US company uses Outlook). Anyway Lotus is like a webpage—you have to refresh it to have it look at your server and see if there are any new messages, whereas Outlook is basically always connected and retrieves a message as soon as it comes in. So sometimes I don't get my emails from the morning until the afteroon, because the server [that] the messages are sitting on gets pretty loaded up and has to queue stuff to go out. Also if you don't [quit] Lotus the way it likes it will not [start] again until you [restart] your computer. So if you have to do a CTRL+ALT+DELETE command to [quit], you have to [restart] your computer to get it to work again. I had to [restart] my computer seven times this morning because of this PIECE OF S***, CRAPHOLED, F***ING STUPID, NO GOOD, B*****D CHILD OF EXCREMENT OF A[N] APPLICATION SUCKS ALL THE A** IN THE WORLD AND EVERY COPY OF IT SHOULD BE BURNED AND DUMPED INTO THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN!!!!!!!!!!
Whew, that felt better. Source
- Our organization has gone through great pains having had to use Bogus Bloats. Almost everyone in IS loathes and detests it. I truly believe that if not for the pointy hairs in the world Notes would simply cease to exist. I admit that I have never used its highly-praised "discussion" features, but as bad as it is everywhere else, I'd sooner eat my own hand than be forced to spend even *more* time in that stinking, maggot-infested piece of s*** that some losers at IBM dare to call "software." Source.
- [W]ould someone fix our F'ING Lotus Notes mail server? I'm so very happy we switched to this very stable and rock solid piece of s***. It's so much fun to tell the client, "No, I did not get your messages because our mail server sucks a** again today". I love that stuff. Source.
- If you are [a] fellow inmate in Notes Hell, you'll know the thousand reasons why. Source.
- I've used Lotus Notes, and it is truly the work of the devil. Source.
Conclusion
Lotus Notes sucks.
