[Lotus Notes Sucks: Example 46]
The Status Bar
Problem
The status bar isn't really a status bar. It doesn't really tell you the status of anything. It contains "drop-up" lists. They all look disabled even when they aren't. You cannot visually determine that the first three lists are disabled and that the last four are enabled.
Analysis
When it comes right down to it, the status bar is totally useless. The right-most drop-up list contains commands that are available elsewhere on the Lotus Notes window.
User Interface Guideline Violations
- Interface does not follow established conventions, such as providing the correct visual affordances. That is, if a drop-up list is disabled, it should look disabled. If it is available, it should look available.
- Forcing the user to deal with stupidity.
Update for Version 6.5.2
The status bar looks a little better, but it contains the same useless junk.
Conclusion
Lotus Notes sucks.
