[Lotus Notes Sucks: Example 15]
Canceling a Message
Problem
If I am composing a mail message, but then decide I don't want to send it, I click the Close button to abandon the message. I get this annoying dialog box every time:
Analysis
The first option, "Send and save a copy" is always selected by default, even if you always select Discard changes as I do. Remember that I see this dialog when I want to abort the message. Wouldn't you think that the last option should be the one to be selected by default? Or how about the option I chose the last time I saw this stupid dialog box?
What if Lotus Notes were to show a dialog box that looks like this:
Click Yes to send the message, click No to abandon the message or click Cancel to go back to it. If I click No, the message can be put in Trash. This way, I can always open it if I change my mind later—or at least until I empty the Trash. Doesn't this make more sense?
Update for Version 6.5.2
Lotus Notes 6.5.2 dialog box is different:
It's a little better; you only have to click once, instead of (usually) twice. But it still sucks.
User Interface Guideline Violations
- Interface does not follow established conventions.
- Interrupting the user's work flow with a poorly constructed dialog box.
- Forcing the user to deal with stupidity.
Conclusion
Lotus Notes sucks.
