[Lotus Notes Sucks: Example 13]
Another Unnecessary Dialog Box
Problem
In Example 8, I wanted to change the display format of an "object." What happens when Lotus Notes, on its own, changes the display of an "object," or bitmap in this case, from what it used to look like (a picture) to an icon?
Analysis
Instead of disabling all inappropriate formats, you get a stupid dialog box:
What the hell does this really mean: "The object application does not support this format"? What the hell is an "object application" and what is "this format"? How do I fix it?
User Interface Guideline Violations
- Interface does not follow established conventions because it allows the user to click on a command that isn't valid in the current context.
- User is given useless information.
- Giving the user an incomprehensible error message.
- Interrupting the user's work flow with a dialog box that should never have a reason to appear.
- Forcing the user to deal with stupidity.
Conclusion
Lotus Notes sucks.
