[Lotus Notes Sucks: Example 11]
Deleting an Email Message
Problem
When I delete a message in my Sent Box, I get the following dialog box:
Analysis
What the hell is this? Not only is this annoying (I expect my "selected document(s)" to be put in the Trash bin; I don't expect to be asked about it), but the message is incomprehensible: what is the difference between "deleting these documents" and "remove them from Sent view"? Do I care? I just want the messages gone!
Even more irritating: The only way to dismiss the dialog box is to click one of the buttons. Forget about using the keyboard; no access keys are assigned. Pressing ENTER doesn't do anything. Press the ESCAPE key and this dialog box appears:
So what happens when I type mismatch? That doesn't seem to help.
User Interface Guideline Violation
- Asking the user a stupid question.
- Giving the user an incomplete error message.
- Interrupting the user's work flow with a dialog box that should never have a reason to appear.
- Forcing the user to deal with stupidity.
Conclusion
Lotus Notes sucks.
