[Lotus Notes Sucks: Example 2]
Clicking a Hyperlink
Problem
I received a message with a web link on it. When I click the hyperlink, Internet Explorer usually starts and opens the link for me. Not today. All of sudden, I received this winner:
Wrong! A browser is installed. In fact, I have two browsers installed.
Analysis
For who knows what reason, every now and then Lotus Notes forgets where the browsers are installed.
User Interface Guideline Violations
- Giving the user the wrong error message.
- Giving the user an incomplete error message. How about telling me which browser is not installed? "This browser" doesn't help.
- Not helping the user fix the problem.
- Forcing the user to deal with stupidity.
Update for Version 6
I received an email message claiming that this was fixed in Lotus Notes 6.0 in 2002. I'll take his word for it. But it amazes me that it wasn't fixed until version 6!
Conclusion
Lotus Notes sucks.
